Maiweg was born 1 September 1871, Bochum-Langendreer.  He was a mayor in civilian.  The Soldbuch was started 1 August 1940, at Front Stalag 152.  Interesting that Maiweg started the Soldbuch himself!  He is listed as Major and Kommandant.

He is listed serving at Front Stalag 152, Front Stalag 190, Dulag 190.

Later he was a part of reserve units, Infantry Ersatz Bataillon 193 Detmold, Infantry Ersatz Bataillon 46 Luneburg.

Front Stalag 152 at Pithiers, France, was built to house German POW’s but with the fall of France, first housed French POW’s. Located in Vichy France, in May 1941, foreign born Jews living in Paris were sent there and it became a concentration camp.  In May 1942, the SS took over operations and Auschwitz transports began.  By September 1942, it was transformed again and held political prisoners.

He also served at the POW Camp at Charleville-Sedan, which was an old castle.

Maiweg twice received leather shoes, May and August 1941.

He received his immunizations from the Lagerarzt at Front Stalag 190.

He saw the dentist at the Orleans Kriegs Lazarette 1-604, 17km away, 2 August 1941.  He had upper dentures.

His pay as a Major was noted, 1 August 1940.

30 January 1941, he was awarded the War Service Cross 2nd Class with Swords by the Military Government of France.  Again, the award is signed by him as Major and Kommandant.

Three leaves are entered. From 17 December 1940 to 10 January 1941, he traveled to Dusseldorf and Berlin.  From August to September 1941, he went home to Dusseldorf-Dortmund.  From 10 February to 25 February 1942, he went home.

After war’s end, Dr. Maiweg was installed by the British government as the mayor of Moers!  Did they not know???)  On 12 February 1946, he was voted a Moers city director.  He died in Orsoy, Germany, 27 December 1962.

There is information and a nice tribute to him as mayor online, as well as this photo.
