Wehrpass for Ernst Gräfe, born 15 May 1911, Iserlohn.  He was married.  He was a self employed grinder.

The Wehrpass was started in Iserlohn, 8 May 1939.

He  had a Class 1 Drivers License and was with the Fire Department since 1935.


He underwent his military induction physical, 16 October 1939, and was found fit for military service,  Ersatz Reserve 1.

From 9-28 December 1940, he served with 4 Company Infantry Ersatz Battalion 39.  From 29 December 1940 to 18 November 1941, he served with 14  Panzer Jaeger Company Infantry Regiment 240.  From 19 November to 8 December 1941, he was with Infantry Ersatz Panzer Jaeger Company 227.  From 5 January to 4 February 1942, he was with Infantry Regiment 240.  He was with 2 Verfüg Company Infantry Ersatz Battalion 421 from 5 February to 8 June 1942.  Lastly, from 15 June 1942 to 14 May 1943, he served with 14 Company Infantry Regiment 240.

He trained on the 98k and heavy Grenade Launcher 34.


He was awarded the Russian Front Medal 12 August 1942.

1 June 1942, he was promoted to Gefreiter and 1 March 1943, he was promoted to Obergefreiter.


He was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class.

Combat listed is defensive fighting in Russia 5 Jaunary to 13 January 1942.  Repulsing the enemy in 14 January to 4 February 1942 (Gshatsk).  (In February the regiment engaged Partisans by Wjasma.) (20 April 1942, the regiment was sent to the West to rebuild and were in the area of Boulogne andCalais).  Then 15 June 1942 protecting the Atlantic Coast. 

Lastly, they went back to the East Front Campaign, 3 1March 1943, in the area of Charkow.

4 February 1942, he was buried by a mortar (artillery) round while with Infantry Regiment 240 in the East.  This would have been by Gshatsk.


14 May 1943, he was killed in Russia. 


It says he was buried in Nikolskoje, Russia.  The German Graves Office lists him as buried in Ssolomino by Kursk.
