Wehrpass Hanold
Army Wehrpass for Willy Hanold, born 21 March 1907, Laüban.
The Wehrpass was started 13 October 1937, Görlitz, when volunteered for military service.
The cover is stamped Heer in red ink.
He completed a military motorcycle driver’s license, 27 August 1940.
He was volunteered for military service, and was classified Ersatz Reserve I, 23 August 1937.
He completed his Reichsarbeitsdienst service between 1 November 1937 and 28 March 1938, as an Arbeitsmann.
He was first with 1 Infantry Regiment 30, Görlitz, 14 November 1938 to 14 November 1940. Then he was with 1 Motorized Company Infantry Regiment 30 from 15 November 1940 to 31 July 1941. From 1 August 1941 to 16 february 1942, he was with Genesenden Company Infantry Ersatz Batl (motorized) 30. 17 June to 1 July 1942, he was with Heesesentlassungsstelle.
Hanold had been trained on Gewehr 98k, light machine gun 08 and 15, pistol 08, light machine gun 34, light grenade 20, machine pistol.
It shows again he made his military driver’s license for motorcycles, 27 August 1940, with 14 - Infantry Regiment 30.
He was promoted to Gefreiter 1 October, 1939, to Obergefreiter 1 October 1940, and to Unteroffizier 1 October 1941.
He received the Wound Badge in Gold, 26 September 1941. He received the Iron Cross 2nd Class, 22 November 1941.
As an Unteroffizier, he was released from military service while at the hospital in Berlin, as he had “practical blindness” in his right eye and had lost his left eye.
He fought on the border with Poland, 1-2 September 1939. From 4-6 September 1939, Warsaw. from 20-25 September, he was fighting between Warsaw and Modlin. And from 20-27, he was fighting at Warsaw. From 28 September to 15 October 1939, he was working security in the Generalgouvernment.
From 15 October 1939 to 9 May 1940, he was on the Western Border with action in Maastricht, Maas, East Belgium, crossing the Gette, break thru at Dyle and over the Sennette and at Flanders and Schelde. He was at Ypern, West Flanders, Lys.
From 31 May to 4 June 1940, he was fighting at Dunkirk. Until September 1940, he was in Western France.
From 22 June to 31 July 1941, he participated in the Invasion of Russia.
On 31 July 1941, while serving with 1 (motorized) Infantry Regiment 30, he was wounded by projectile shrapnel to both eyes, in Ja__zowa, Russia.
Absolutely great Wehrpass for a motorized infantry volunteer who participated in the invasion of Poland, Belgium, Holland, France and was severely wounded early in the Russian campaign. One of the very few times I have had a recipient of the Wound Badge in Gold. Includes a Wehrpass slip cover with a piece of paper glued onto it with his name. Everything is in really nice condition.
