Wehrpass for Helmut Peltzer, born 28 February 1909, Köln.  He was a single salesman.

The Wehrpass was started 8 February 1940, in Hamburg.  The cover was stamped in red ink, Heer.

He completed middle school class 3a, and was skilled as a bicyclist.


When called to military service, he was classified Ersatz Reserve I and his physical exam, 8 February 1940.

He received his initial military training from 6 May to 15 May 1940, with 4 Infantry Ersatz Batl. 76, Hamburg-Wandsbek.  He then continued his service with them until 17 August 1940.  From 25 August to 16 October 1940, he served with 4 Infantry Field Ersatz Batl. (motorized) 20.  He then served with 8 (machine gun) Company Infantry Regiment 76, from 17 October 1940 until May 1945.

He trained on light machine gun 34, carbine 98, pistole 08, and hand grenade 24.


He trained to be a company clerk.


At the bottom of page 21, his awards are crossed out and re entered on page 23.

On 1 March 1941, he was promoted to Gefreiter. On 1 June 1942, he was promoted to Obergefreiter, and on 1 October 1943, he was promoted to Unteroffizier.






He was awarded the Russian Front Medal, 24 July 1942, the War Service Cross 2nd Class with Swords 15 November 1943, the Infantry Assault Badge in Bronze 28 February 1944, and the War Service Cross 1st Class with Swords 27 February 1942.

From 20 May until 3 August 1940, he served in Denmark.  From 6 September until 9 December 1940, he served in France. From 22 June 1941 until May 1945, he served in Russia, in the operations area of the 20 Panzer Grenadier Division.

The War Service Cross 2nd Class with Swords document was awarded to Unteroffizier Peltzer with 8 Company Grenadier Regiment (motorized) 76.  The award was made by the 20 Panzer Grenadier Division, 15 November 1943.  It is signed by Oberst Dr. Walter Kühn, as deputy Division Commander.  Kühn, a German Cross in Gold holder, became Commander of 20 Panzer Grenadier Division in 1944.  He attained the rank of Generalmajor in January 1945, and survived the war.

The document has a center fold.

On 29 August 1941, Peltzer, as a machine gunner, stormed Ssologubowka  during an assault in the front line.  Credited with a close combat day.


On 29 September 1941, Peltzer, as a machine gunner, stormed in the front line, in the forest east of Ssinjawino.  Credited with a close combat day.


On 26 July 1943, Peltzer acted as a fire team leader, in repulsing a Russian attack at Apalkowo. Credited with a close combat day.


Dated 14 January 1944. 8 Machine Gun Company Grenadier Regiment (motorized) 76.

Fantastic set for an Army NCO clerk turned machine gunner combatant who fought the Russians from 1941 through 1945.  Awesome detailed report of his close combat fighting against Russian tanks.
