Wehrpass Voit 2
Letter dated 4 September 1943, from the 2 Company Commander Panzer A.A. 125 to Voit’s father, notifying him of his son’s death. Also included but not shown is the actual handwritten letter.
For the last days, the unit was engaged in hard fighting in the area of Wyasma. Herbert was known as a good soldier and was a messenger with 2nd Company. On 30 August, the company was under heavy Russian Artillery fire. During the shelling, Herbert was tasked with delivering a message to the reserve troops. On the way, he was hit with shrapnel on the head and killed.
Herbert was buried with military honors in the cemetery at Duchowtschina, 70 km northeast of Smolensk.
Herbert was a brave soldier and served to make a better future for all.
The company will not forget him.
Letter dated 17 Octoberr 1943, from the 2 Company Commander Panzer A.A. 125 to Voit’s father saying they received the letter from him. The company made photos of his grave, but they need to send the film to the homeland to be developed.
The company has at this time all his personal belongings and as soon as they have a respite from fighting will send them to him.
Death notice for Herbert dated 20 September 1943, St. Ingbert. Lists Herbert as having received the Russian Front Medal in addition to the Wound Badge.
Interesting that he had a younger brother, who at the time, was a Luftwaffe Helfer!
Death document recognizing that Herbert gave his life so that Germany could remain free with the accompanying letter. The letter states the document is being sent as is the Wehrpass, 14 February 1944.
Black Wound Badge document with the accompanying letter. Herbert earned the Black Wound Badge on 10 April for 1 wound, with 2 Company Aufkl. Abt. 25 motorized. The award was made 15 April 1942. Signed by a Major and Batl. Commander.
The letter says the document is being sent to Herbert’s father, 9 May 1942.
General Assault Badge (converted from an Infantry!) document with the accompanying letter. Herbert was posthumously awarded the Assault Badge on 20 October 1943, with 2 Company Panzer Aufkl. Abt. 25. Signed by a Hauptmann and Batl. Commander.
The letter says the document is being sent to Herbert’s father to honor his bravery, 4 November 1943.
Herbert, at 12 years old, earned his Freischwimmer certificate for 15 minutes treading water.
The second certificate was when he was 15, when he earned his advanced swimmer badge as a Hitler Youth Landjahr participant.
Herbert, was 15 when he participated from April to December 1936 in the Hitler Youth Landjahr program, in Wolzig, east of Berlin and west of Frankfurt am Oder. Nice photo in HJ uniform.
